The department

The role is based within the Data System sub team of the wider IT Development Team.

The IT Development team is made up of 3 sub teams:

1: The Data Systems Team

2: The Product Delivery Team

3: The Product Development Team

Purpose of job

As a Data Systems Engineer in our Data & Systems Team, your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):

  • Data Analysis
  • Data Manipulation
  • Data Processing using ETL / ELT techniques
  • 3rd line support for internal and third-party systems
  • DBA tasks
  • Database deployments.
Accountabilities

On a day to day basis your accountabilities will incude:

  • Working with members of the Data and Systems team to implement solutions and deployments.
  • Work with fellow team members to instil a culture of continuous improvement across the team and within data related system design and development.
  • Ensures that your own technical knowledge is industry standard and up to date.
The candidate
  • Data related qualifications or relevant field experience
  • Track record of implementing successful ETL/ELT processes
  • A strong understanding of data and analytical processing technologies e.g. Transactional databases, SQL server, various cloud platforms and services
  • Good understanding of RDMS and in particular SQL Server 2016 and above.
  • Good understanding of APIs and experience of using 3rd party APIs to integrate systems.
  • Knowledge of key technologies and frameworks required by the data solution delivery pillar e.g. Azure data factory, event hubs and data bricks
  • Good understanding of Agile methodologies.
  • Track record of demonstrating analytical skills.
  • Track record of problem solving / logical issues resolution.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Strong organisational / time management skills.
  • Effectively manage multiple priorities.
  • Be able to travel as necessary, and perform additional job-related duties as requested.
  • Communicate effectively in both verbal (i.e. day-to-day discussions, team meetings) and written (requirements and design specifications) form, as well as have an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications.
  • Positive and enthusiastic approach to team work.
  • Highly analytical.
  • Self-motivated, ability to use initiative and provide pro-active support to users.
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and development.
