The department

The role is part of the Infrastructure team which installs and maintains both On Premises & Cloud infrastructure, hardware, software & services as part of the larger IT team.

The IT Team is responsible for all aspects of IT across the business, covering User Support, Infrastructure, Network, Security, Data and Development Teams.

Purpose of job

This role is working alongside other Infrastructure team members to perform BAU tasks, 3rd line support to our service desk and resource to projects deploying new services in accordance with best practices and other established business requirements.

It involves the ongoing maintenance and configuration of already deployed infrastructure which includes monitoring and testing of underlying platforms, including backup and DR, and proactive maintenance where required. It also involves the deployment of new technology to meet business requirements or improve existing processes.

Wherever possible contribute to continuous improvement of underlying services.

Accountabilities
  • Monitoring of current servers and services picking up and correcting faults before they cause disruption
  • Deployment, monitoring and maintenance of physical and virtual servers
  • Maintenance and monitoring of server vulnerability patching process
  • Maintenance and monitoring of physical hardware patching process
  • Maintenance of Azure cloud infrastructure
  • Monitoring and liaising with Backup and DR as a Service solution
  • Performing and reporting on tests of Backup and DR solutions
  • Deploying and updating where appropriate server-based applications and services
  • 3rd line support of Birketts services and liaising with 3rd party support services
  • VMWare administration and updates
  • Assisting with project work as required
  • Travel as required across offices in East Anglia, London, Kent and the Southwest
Qualifications/Experience

Essential Experience:

  • Working in an Enterprise IT environment
  • Monitoring and responding to environment alerts
  • Managing a highly available VMWare Datacenter environment
  • Backup and DR systems
  • Azure Infrastructure
  • Hardware maintenance
  • Supplying 3rd line support to users

Beneficial Experience:

  • Familiarity with Active Directory and Azure Active Directory and related service e.g. DNS, DHCP etc.
  • Zerto experience
  • Maintaining and patching servers to eliminate critical vulnerabilities
