The department

L&D is a core element of our People offering, as Birketts LLP believes that staff development and learning should be an integral part of the firm’s strategic planning; to enable staff to perform their individual roles effectively and with confidence, and to ensure that we achieve our common objectives and plans for growth. 

The central Learning & Development (L&D) team provides learning and development for all staff through training programmes and other development support. Developing our talent and delivers business systems knowledge, business skills and personal development training for all team members within the firm

The L&D team are mainly based in Ipswich and sits alongside the other people functions including HR. 

Purpose of job

The job holder will be responsible for the development, delivery and management of programs aimed a predominately future and junior lawyers and business services professionals.  This is a hands-on delivery role.

Accountabilities
  • Delivering and developing learning interventions, and programme within the current learning programme framework and Future lawyers Induction programs in line with firm and Learning and Development (L&D) strategy.  Liaising with appropriate stakeholders to ensure learning needs are established and met.
  • Managing the future lawyer’s professional qualification requirements in conjunction with Early Careers and Head of L&D
  • Carrying out Training Needs Analysis (TNA) for target approach to skills and development opportunities.  Working with both external consultants internal SME and delivery some aspects of the programme.
  • Designing both formal and informal learning interventions with accompanying materials such as handouts, exercises and trainer notes.
  • Contributing to and assisting with quality assurance of electronic learning materials.
  • Ensuring the learning environment and resources support learner needs.
  • Preparing the learning environment and resources; including setting up IT equipment where appropriate.
  • Evaluation of the effectiveness of training programmes and learning outcomes.
  • Appropriate record keeping on training delivered to assist the L&D Administrator in ensuring that data is accurate.
  • Responsible for ensuring own knowledge and skills are kept up to date, using internal and external resources and tools.  Requesting training where necessary.

 

The candidate
  • CIPD or equivalent Recognised training qualification (e.g. CIPD/TAP)
  • Demonstrable knowledge of TNA and ROI of learning interventions
  • An experienced skills trainer, ideally with experience gained within a professional services environment
  • Advanced knowledge of L&D best practice and creation of accessible learning interventions.
  • Strong coaching and training delivery skills
  • Strong understanding of Learning & Development and the Training Cycle
  • Interpersonal effectiveness
  • Experience working with SME and external consultants
