The department

Birketts is now recruiting for an ambitious, driven and forward thinking Solicitor or Associate, ideally with 1-6 years PQE ideally with Banking and Finance background, to come and join our growing team on a full time permanent basis.  Individuals with a background in commercial and/or corporate with an interest in Banking and Finance will also be considered.

You will join a highly successful, leading Corporate division, working specifically with the Banking and Finance team, who are seeing substantial growth, resulting in the need for extra resource to take forward ambitious plans for the future.

The Banking and Finance team is led by our Partner Alex Schaafsma, who along with other team members will guide and support you throughout your career at Birketts LLP. The team's expertise covers a variety of different types of banking and finance areas including:

  • Syndicated and bilateral conventional lending
  • Property finance, including advising on funding acquisitions of land, investment property and development/construction
  • Education loans and housing association finance
  • Acquisition Finance
  • Re-financings, restructurings/work-outs
  • Private finance and loan arrangements
  • Asset finance/asset backed lending.
Purpose of job

As a qualified solicitor you will cover a broad range of work across the Banking and Finance team providing assistance to the entire team and its growth.

Work includes:

  • drafting, negotiating and agreeing finance documentation – both facility agreements and security documents using both LMA documentation and Birketts’ own precedents
  • drafting, negotiating and agreeing ancilliary documentation such as fee letters, undertakings and corporate authorities
  • managing transactions and liaising with other team members on larger transactions
  • attending meetings with clients and other law firms.
The candidate

You will need to have strong attention to detail skills to produce work/ documentation which is consistently of a high standard. You will have a flexible approach to work to ensure client deadlines are always met and clients are communicated with on a consistent and regular basis and an interest in and aptitude for business development.

Prior experience of Banking and Finance is not essential, but candidates must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in becoming a specialist within this area. Candidates with good quality experience of either commercial, corporate or real estate finance who have a desire to specialise in Banking and Finance would be highly suited.
