Associate

PQE: 1 year +
Term: Permanent
Working hours: Full-time (37.5 per week)
Department: Employee Incentives
Location: Any Regional Office - Chelmsford, Cambridge, Ipswich or Norwich.
The firm

Birketts is an ambitious full service, top 50 UK law firm, operating in East Anglia, London and the surrounding areas.  With a rich heritage spanning over 150 years we’ve built an enviable track record advising businesses, institutions and individuals in the UK and internationally.

Throughout our history our ethos has remained simple: we provide clear legal advice and value and insight to our clients.

We believe that through this approach and a combination of technical excellence and high quality service we can develop long-lasting partnerships and become our clients' solicitor of choice.

The department

Our specialist team guides employers on the design and implementation of incentive arrangements and advises on the consequences of leavers and other changes in circumstances (both from a legal and tax perspective) in relation to all forms of employee incentive schemes.

Purpose of job

Work includes advising clients on the implications of both direct and indirect employee share ownership, the various models (HMRC approved and unapproved) for achieving employee share ownership via employee trusts, options or other arrangements, drafting the necessary legal documentation and employee friendly communications, preparing corporate ancillary documents, liaising with HMRC and research on a range of related technical questions.

The candidate

We are looking for a 1-6 PQE lawyer for our Employee Incentives practice. You will have gained experience within a well-regarded city, regional or national firm.

Strong technical drafting, research and communication skills, with good attention to detail and a commercial/pragmatic approach are essential qualities, as is the ability to deliver a strongly client-focussed service, giving clear, timely and practical legal advice on often complex, technical areas of law.

Prior experience of employee incentives is not essential, but candidates must be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in becoming an employee incentives specialist. Candidates with good quality experience of either corporate, employment or private client work (in particular, trust law) who have a desire to specialise in employee incentives would be suitable for the role.

Equal opportunities

We are committed to recruiting individuals on merits of suitability for each role, on the basis of qualifications and experience. All applications are treated fairly and equally regardless of sexual orientation, race, disability, religious beliefs and any other protected characteristic, ensuring that there are equal opportunities at all stages of the recruitment process.

Birketts is a flexible business which has embraced a hybrid working model where our colleagues enjoy a mix of home and office working. We welcome applications from people looking for flexible, agile and part time roles and we are happy to explore your preferred working patterns as part of your application.
